Become a Volunteer with HBOT IOM

Today we are looking to create and grow a volunteer force that appeals to a diverse range of people on our Island who will both enhance our patients’ experience and also will become part of our professional hyperbaric team.

If you have a few hours a day/week to spare, enjoying working with people and want to support our community, then we have just the opportunity for you.

Some of the examples of roles we need assistance with are listed below:

Daily Assistant – someone who can welcome any visitors to site providing a helpful and welcoming service to all visitors, patients, contractors, and staff. Answer the telephone and take messages, along with undertaking daily tasks, run an errand.

Office Assistant – We have a very busy office currently with the necessary production of documentation leading towards service provision anyone with computing skills in word, excel, power point, publisher and any other office programs including design skills would be most welcome).

Cleaner – Daily/weekly light duty cleaning. (Hoovering, brushing, wiping surfaces)

Maintenace -  Facility weekly maintenance (this does not include any technical operational tasks at this time but does include (fire alarm testing/painting/gutter clearing/and general maintenance).

Fundraiser- Have you time to organise a coffee morning, run a bingo session, whist drive, take part in a fund-raising event , do you have ideas that would create the funds we need to provide this essential service. The rewards you will witness firsthand from the fruits of your labours with the benefits a patient will receive by having hyperbaric medicine.

Chamber Operator /Attendant – Are you a retired commercial diver, SAT diver, Nurse, EMT, Paramedic, someone with ALS, or a scuba diver or a Hyperbaric chamber Operator, Interested in a medical/scientific career without all the trauma and long hours?

What you need to become a volunteer

Can do want to help attitude.

Cheerful nature and good communication skills

No experience is necessary, just a willingness and desire to help others.

Aged 18 or more.

Ability to commit to a regular period daily/weekly.

Good understanding of both written and spoken English

Site Specific Training is required when you start and will be required every two years thereafter.

Are you Free ?

These are our hours of opening at the moment. Do you have time you can spare ?

Mon – Thurs 7.30am-4.30pm  Fri- 7.30am – 3.30pm 

(Flexibility within these hours of work)

There will always be someone here on site to assist you should you require it

Recruitment process.

The recruitment process will ensure that our volunteers are properly recruited, and trained.

All volunteers are subject to appropriate management and supervision.

During the recruitment process you will be required to:

Complete an application form.

Provide the name and email of two referees who have known you for a minimum of two years.

Have an interview.

You will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) check which will be done after your interview. The DBS verification company charges only an administration fee which is reduced for volunteers i.r.o £15.70.

Agree to shadow a member of staff for a session and attend site specific training every two years.

All volunteers must agree to all of the above before being offered a placement.
